great variety in colors, huge great size, definitely had a lot of weight to it but I feel that it just doesn't have that cohesive opaque colors you get with other gouache brands. does not layer well compared to himi gouache, another affordable brand. I find that it leaves a chalky look and feel after the piece has dried. ok value product for beginners

You know those paint sets for little kids that you can get at the big box stores? The ones that are maybe ten little connected pots of paint? That's what this stuff feels like. Or maybe like a cross between Liquitex Basics paint (which I don't hate) and the little kid's paint. Just like so many have commented, this sucker has an absolutely huge footprint. *Believe* it when you read this. The photos do not tell the reality. Mine arrived in really good shape -- it was well packaged and man, the colors are delicious. I am not going to send it back, nor give it away (at least not now) because there it something really satisfying about all of those colors -- just taking them out, arranging, rearranging.... it's a moment of bliss. :) UPDATE 07/21/2023 It's been a few weeks now and I have played with them a little more. I don't dislike them as much as I did when I first got them. I upped my rating from 3 to 4 stars. I still don't love them -- many of the colors are transparent and they have a sort of slimey feel when I try to paint, as if a little bit of pigment was stirred into hair gel. Too slick - difficult to get an even coverage, which left things streaky. Two coats are needed in many cases. I did discover something that is really helpful. Nine of these little cups fit perfectly into a food prep container I had on hand. This has allowed me to open the big box, choose colors for the palette I want, store them in these containers, then put the big box away. Much smaller footprint on my worktable, which makes this set do-able. For myself, I found it helpful to have one tray of cool colors and one of warm. One thing I do not like at all is that while I appreciate having the well-sealed lid on the storage container, the open cups of paint all leave huge glops on the underside of the lid. You don't dare rearrange these paints after opening. Arrange them how you like, then open them. I think it's a design flaw, but honestly I'm not sure how they would be able to do it differently. UPDATE 09/02/2023 Opened the lid of the gouache box again, this time taking a picture. Glops are even worse now that all of the little pots are opened. Zowie! The double sheets of dense foam did help to keep them moist, but gads, what a mess. No way could I have replaced the lid without contaminating all of the pots worse than they were. Yep, lots of seeping from one pot to the next. I cleaned everything up, then ripped the foam from the lid and tossed. Before replacing the lid I sealed everything with Press'n Seal plastic wrap. Not sure why I haven't tossed this stuff yet. Either I see something in them or I am just that stubborn. lol

Great value for money! This pack is HUGE!! Some one said the paints have oils on top but that is normal for gouache in both tube and pod. Just mix with a small pallet knife and it's perfect! I love the consistency of this product vs tubes from Michaels or hobby lobby. Way better value and quality of paint.
