OIL PASTELS TECHNIQUES
Impasto & Scraping
The intense colors and high covering power are ideal for techniques such as impasto and scraping. By using an impasto technique you can add another dimension to your painting by adding increased texture to areas of significance.
Stippling
Stippling is done with a quick, rapid application of the paint to the surface. In pastels, stippling is frequently used to put lots of colors next to each other, so that when you step back from the painting, the painting fools your eyes into mixing the colored dots together.
Blending & Gradation
Blending is a smooth transition between two colors. Gradation is an oil painting technique where there is gradual change from one colour to another, or where a single colour gradually lightens or darkens because of a change in lighting.
